The California YMCA Youth and Government program is a model legislature and court program that teaches high school students about the state’s government and political systems. Students run for office, write legislation, and serve in various posts such as Governor, Senator, lobbyist and Supreme Court Justice. The program sparked Karl’s interest in politics at an early age and he continues to raise money for its scholarship fund to this day.

The Baby Dragon Fund

Hunter Allen was Karl’s colleague and close friend for almost a decade. Sadly, addiction took his life in the spring of 2008. Soon after, Hunter’s friends and family established The Baby Dragon Fund in his loving memory with a specific goal of advancing the causes for which he cared about so passionately. Funds raised by the fund benefit The L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center’s programs for Crystal Meth Addiction Recovery, Mental Health, and Youth Services.

American Foundation for Equal Rights
Website | Facebook | Twitter | Donate

The American Foundation for Equal Rights is dedicated to protecting and advancing equal rights for every American. As the sole sponsor of the federal court challenge of California’s Proposition 8, known as Perry v. Schwarzenegger, AFER is leading the fight for marriage equality and equality under the law for every American. AFER has assembled a legal team led by Theodore Olson and David Boies to demonstrate that Proposition 8 violates the U.S. Constitution by denying millions of people equal protection under the law.

National Parks Foundation
Website | Facebook | Twitter | Donate

For more than a century, private philanthropy has been essential to the preservation and protection of America’s national park. The National Park Foundation upholds this commitment, working to raise the funds necessary to connect all Americans to their national parks and guarantee their future for generations to come. Through its work, NPF programs fund park conservation and restoration efforts, foster youth engagement, promote citizenship and preserve history in the places where it happened.
